database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

I have just for this alert within the CSA MC V5.1.0.79

The 'Management Center for Cisco Security Agents V5.1' database is approaching its maximum allowable size. Please purge old data.

I have look at the 'Database Mainteance' and I can see the following

Database size: 1273 MB

Event and configuration data size: 1142 MB

Application Deployment data size: 0 MB

Unallocated space: 114 MB

Free disk space: 29586 MB

Recommendations: none.

Database csaanalysis51 (behavior analysis data) [connection parameters]

Database size: 1 MB

Unallocated space: 0 MB

Free disk space: 29586 MB

Recommendations: none.

How can I resolve this issue ?

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

You can try purging events older than 30 days and see if it helps. The problem is the size limitation with MSDE (2GB). Sounds like you have a ways to go before reaching this.

How many hosts and events?

I had a problem with v 5.0 that would not resolve no matter what I did and I fixed by upgrading the DB to SQL 2000.

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

I'm seeing this problem right now, but I'm at 2.9GB. I've purged all my events older than 24 hours but the database keeps getting bigger each time I run shrink database!

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

That's exactly what happened to me with v5.0. No matter what I tried, the DB size kept on growing. The only solution I found was to upgrade the DB.

I don't have that problem and I also have 5.1.079.

How many total items on the MC (groups, variables, rules, etc..)

Strange...

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

Well, it did finally shrink the database; most likely it was after the database got a full backup.

I'm on build 88.

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

I have almost the same problem. I need another database because the current one is getting the size limitations.

How should i do this change? Meanwhile, is there any loss? It is important not.

Thank you,

Cristina

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

Hi James,

I usually only work with events current to 7 days. I believe the auto purge is set-up to run every 20 days. If you change this to say 14 days you should resolve this issue.

Most if the time, I only use data from the last 72 hours for tuning.

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

I have also done it. However, due to the amount of agents i will need another database.

Has anyone face this problem?

Re: database is approaching its maximum allowable size ?

I ran the SQL 2000 installation and chose "Upgrade existing SQL Server installation" and it worked fine on a test MC.

There is more information on upgrading SQL Server Desktop Engine here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325023

I don't know if this is supported by Cisco so make sure you have a good backup and run a backup of the MC before attempting it.

Are you using a Local or Remote database ?
