Default enabled/disabled services on the router?

Hello,

I want to tighten security on routers running IOS v12.2, but before configuring "no" commands how can I know services enabled or disabled by default?

Check the IOS Command reference for this particular command you are looking up. To return to the default setting, you can always use the "default" command prior to the command itself.

It is always a good idea to turn tcp and udp small-servers off anyhow regardless of its default value if this is what you are looking for.

There are also other things that you can turn off safely like "finger", "cdp" (in case you don't need it), etc.

They have some good stuff too. You can run your config through a tool you can download it, and it makes recommendations. The tool might recommend changes that you cannot enact on your platform (in my case, switches runnung IOS), but it still can be helpful
