What is the difference between a PIX-525 that comes with a Restricted Software bundle and an Unrestricted bundle?
I want to make sure my customer can do 3DES. Does the Unrestricted bundle have that license in it??

Restricted software limits throughput and interfaces.
For the 525 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_data_sheet09186a0080091b09.html):
Restricted Software License
The Cisco PIX 525 "Restricted" (PIX 525-R) model provides an excellent value for organizations looking for robust Cisco PIX Security Appliance services with Gigabit Ethernet support, medium interface density, and moderate VPN throughput requirements. It includes 128 MB of RAM and support for up to six 10/100 Fast Ethernet or three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

Thanks Mike. I guess we would still need to buy the license for 3DES then?? Also what does VAC or VAC+ stand for?

There is a utility for a free 3DES license in the software center under Cisco Secure. I am not sure if access to it requires SmartNet or if it is public. The VAC is the VPN accelerator card. This offloads the VPN encryption tasks from the CPU to the card.

Unrestricted bundle includes the 3DES license.
U can also order the PIX-525 Restricted version with 3DES license from the start as it cost 0$ (license).
you can get the 3DES license for free from here:
