Do I need ISA or ISM card for 7120?

Are the ISA and ISM cards required or optional for a 7120 to do IPSec? I will probably only have at most 4 or 5 tunnels on the box. Also, I am having a hard time finding information on these cards to see if there is any configuration required to use these cards or if they are just plug-n-play.

Hi,

If you only have 4 or 5 tunnels and also not passing big traffic through the tunnel (above several M per second), even without hardware encryption in 7120, it still should be all right.

The card will be plug and play, make sure you have loaded correct IOS image to support the card.

The VPN config in the router will be the same.

From "show crypto engine accelerator statistic", you can find the details of card input and output.

in global config mode "no crypto engine accelerator" to switch back to software encryption or "crytpo engine accelerator" back to hardware encryption.

Default the hardware encryption is always on.

Best Regards,
