Does load balancing provide automatic failover?

Hello,

I have two 3005 concentrators running in parallel and configured for load balancing. Everything works fine. However, when testing the redundancy of this setup by disconnecting the 3005 controlling the client session, the client does not try to automatically connect with the second 3005.

This is what Cisco says about load balancing VPN clients:

"If a machine in the cluster fails, the terminated sessions can immediately reconnect to the virtual cluster IP address."

That statement can be found at:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2284/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008015ce26.html

So, what gives? Have I missed a checkbox somewhere or something?

Thanks.

Re: Does load balancing provide automatic failover?

Bruce,

If I understand the documentation correctly, the VPN Client can reconnect to the Virtual Cluster IP Address manually but not automatically.

There is a feature on the vpn client called "Using Automatic VPN Initiation" which is kind of what you are looking for but this was designed more for WLANS and might not suit your needs.

Let me know if it helps.

Regards,

Arul
