Export ACS2.x Database and Import it back to new ACS3.0: POSSIBLE???

Because my customer don't want to touch his current ACS2.4 to upgrade, he would like to prepare a new machine with WIN2000 and ACS3.0, and just export&import the database.

I did not find any documents on this possible migration issue.

So, the question is: IS IT POSSIBLE AND SUPPORTED ????

Re: Export ACS2.x Database and Import it back to new ACS3.0: POS

I'm not sure if its possible. I have a similar problem. I want to upgrade from 2.6 to 3.0 and from NT server to W2K Server. Since the ACS3.0 (CSACS-3.0)is too expensive it would be better to buy the upgrade (CSACS-3.0-UPG ). It costs almost 70% less.

So, if you like you can upgrade first the ACS (from 2.4 to 3.0) on the same NT server. Then upgrade the NT server to W2K server(without changing the computer). That way you save money and you save your database.

Re: Export ACS2.x Database and Import it back to new ACS3.0: POS

Indeed, the tips you described to pay less can be used.

But in my customer's case it will not permit to implement ACS3.0 on a new machin, without stopping the first one.

And that's our problem.

We don't want to touch the current production machine at all.

Now, we could try your tips in an other machine, installing WIN NT4 and ACS2.4; but what a big substituted way to proceed !

It becomes pretty long and complex, just because we cannot import the database...

I still hope somebody could provide me a way to do the export/import working.

Thanks anyway for your advice.

Re: Export ACS2.x Database and Import it back to new ACS3.0: POS

As far as I know, there's no separate tool to export and import the user db in the way you'd like to.

I did an Upgrade from ACS 2.6 on a NT4 Server to ACS 3.01 an a W2K Server.

I performed the following steps :

1) Set up the new machine with W2K and ACS 2.6

2) Perform replication from "old" ACS to "new" ACS

3) Update "new" ACS to 3.01

It works fine !

Re: Export ACS2.x Database and Import it back to new ACS3.0: POS

You can do a database dump on 2.6 then re-import the users and groups. The information in this database dump however will only contain users and groups and not the NAS. So you will have to recreate the NAS.

eg;

----to dump use -d argument

net stop csauth

csutil -d dump.txt

net start csauth

----to resotre use - L argument

net stop csauth

csutil - l dump.txt

net start csauth
