Can failover PIX boxes have differ hostname? Or they need to be the same?

i would think so, as the fo unit sync with the primary unit including all the codes ann the command hostname is part of it.

Usually the hostname is identical in failover configuration.

You are 100% right, hostname has to be the same for the HA pair.
