HEATH FREEL

When my primary PIX fails over the the secondary PIX I have to clear the arp table in the Internet router to get traffic flowing- is this normal.

Is there somthing I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

PIX can do a statefull failover, if your setup and config are done right. Normally, clearing ARP table on your router wouldn't be necessary. So, I guess someting is wrong with your setup or config, please provide setup and config (remove real IP adresses and encrypted password before posting), then we can try to help.

Kind Regards,

Definitely not normal. When failover occurs, the secondary assumes both the IP and the MAC address of the primary, so no ARP updating should need to occur.
