Firewall or IDS

Hi guys ,

I am a student doing a network project. Is there any firewall or instrusion detection systems can be connected to cisco router serial port?

You have a number of options.

1. You could load the IOS Firewall featureset on the router itself.

2. You could put a firwall module into the router (depending of course on what Cisco it is)

3. You could use a router and bridge it to ethernet and use any firewall product.

Cisco has an optional IOS firewall feature set, but you might need to upgrade the flash and or RAM of the router to run it. Also, its IDS signature set is limited.

You would be much better off installing openbsd or linux on an old PC, and running Snort on it
