Does the IDS-4250-XL really provide gigabit performance? Has it been tested yet? My understanding is it's hard to get a gig performance with Linux and PC-based architecture unless there's something more to it - for instance with the IDS-4250-XL it could be the hardware accelarator. Are there any independent test results or performance limitations?

The 4250-XL has been validated according to our reported specifications at 1 Gigabit. This has been verified independently by the NSS test group. You can contact your Cisco Account team and they should be able to provide you with the results of these tests.

Technically, yes, it does provide gigabit performance, but under the following assumed conditions (according to Cisco):
5000 new TCP connections per second
5000 HTTP transactions per second
Average packet size of 595 bytes
Running Cisco IDS 4.0 Sensor Software
Now tell me.... How many of you have an average packet size of 595 bytes? ;)
