Does Cisco have any plans to field an IDS capable of handling Gigabit speeds? If so, what's the timeframe, and where can we learn more about it?

Your query is surprisingly timely (or is that un-timely?).
Cisco has just released the 4250, a Gb speed IDS capable - for the moment - of handling 500 Mb/s of traffic under the tested conditions.
