Presuming that I have a the Cisco 3660 AIM-VPN/High Performance module installed in an 3660 Cisco router (of course), after command "show crypto engine configuration" it is possible that IOS to report "crypto engine type: software" ?
Can have a 3660 Cisco router hardware encryption without any AIM-VPN or other modules installed on the chassis ?
If the crypto engine type is software then it is using software encryption. If you have the VPN mod
installed, either the crypto h/w is disabled (by having in the config something like no crypto engine
accelerator) or the IOS loaded on the router doesn't support the VPN module. For the 3600 to do h/w encryption it would need the VPN module installed and the corresponding IOS loaded that supports it. Otherwise it would just use software encryption.
