We have someome using a 1720 for a VPN and wanting to bring in remote MS VPN clients using GRE with remote Gateways set to pub IP address of 1720 serial interface. Now we can terminate the GRE at the FE port on router but we need to get the packets to the next hop wich is linux fw server. IS THIS DO-ABLE?
As long as the packets are destined for the Linux Server and the 1700 has a route to (or is directly connected to) that server, and as long as there are no access lists restricting GRE, then yes, you can easily route GRE (or any IP protocol) through the 1700. If you are terminating your tunnel at the 1700 now, all you should need is to change the tunnel end to the Linux box and setup the Linux box to terminate the tunnel.
