How to monitor modem access on AUX port?

I'd like to get an alert anytime someone attempts to dial into a router via an attached modem. I haven't seen any SNMP traps specifically for this. Is this functionality included in another trap category? Or possibly a Syslog message?

Re: How to monitor modem access on AUX port?

Haven't seen this directly but rmon can give you traps on any mib variable you can find.

This is my standard method to make my own traps.

First would be to take a mib browser and dig around the aux port to find something that changes consistantly when the modem answers. On a normal serial line you would see carrier detect.

rmon works backwards in my view. You need to define a rmon alarm that defines this mib and what value indicates some action should take place. You then define a rmon event that takes place when the alarm conditions are met

You can make it send snmp traps or do logging.
