ICMP count packets

Hello,

while troubleshooting, I noticed something that i think it is wrong or unusual.

On my router interface fast1 i have acl 100 inbound and acl 200 outbound; both acl's have permit icmp any any .

When I ping with 4 packets (ping ip -c 4) from inbound, acl 100 counts only one packet and acl 200, 4 packets. Also if I repeat ping the same IP acl 100 count nothing and acl 200 counts 4 packets again. Only if I ping another IP acl 100 will count another packet.

This is counfusing for me, I think acl 100 should count like acl 200 4 packets.

I have a router 1812.

Thank u

Hi,

Are you orginating those ping packets from the router itself?

Remember that ping packets are "echo packets" in one direction and "echo reply" while returning back.

Enable "debug ip icmp" on the router and look for those packets

Pls rate if it helps.
