Re: IDSM2 and Catalyst 6006

The IDSM-2 runs the same version 4.x software as the standalone IDS-4200 appliances.

There are management options for both configuration and alarm viewing, you will need one of each.

No additional cost options -

(Targeted towards small 1 to 5 sensor deployments)

1) IDM (IDS Device Manager) for configuration

2) IEV (Intrusion Detection Event Viewer) for alarm viewing

3) CTR (Cisco Threat Response) for alarm viewing, and will also help determine if the attacks were successful or unsuccessful

Additional cost options -

(Targeted towards larger enterprise deployments, and contains features not in the no additional cost options)

1) VMS (Cisco Works VPN and Security Management Solution) which contains

IDS MC (IDS Management Center) for configuration of sensors, and

SecMon (Security Monitoring Center) for viewing of IDS alarms as well as Pix syslogs and generating reports.

(NOTE: VMS also contains other utilities for managing other types of Cisco security devices)

2) SIMS (Cisco Works Security Information Management Solution) for alarm viewing, provides more options for archiving and reporting as well as building a management heirarchy.

Note: The original IDSM-1 is being End Of Saled so purchase the newer IDSM-2
