I have an ASDM CD and am trying to install to a new notebook running windows XP Pro, ...doesn't understand the file extension (.bin) and therefore run button not available, ...any ideas?

the file for installing on the notebook needs to have a .msi extention .. I don't think you are selecting the correct file ...

Hi,
Alternatively, you probably can make use of your devices loaded with ASDM to install the utility into your notebook.
You need to use https and point it to the IP Address of the device, e.g ASA inside interface. Choose to install ASDM once you get the login page. It will give you option to install ASDM into your laptop, or run as java.
Condition: you have to configure the device before accessing it via web browser, e.g IE.
This will be faster to get ASDM loaded - if you do not want to download from cisco website.
