Will "sh ver" tell me if my router has the Cisco firewall feature set installed. The router I bought is supposed to have it but, I can't determine if it is actually there. Is there some other way to determine this.

You can find out the feature sets installed on your router by pasting the output of "sh ver" in the Cisco's "output interpreter" ( https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/OutputInterpreter/home.pl?style=small','oi ) and click "submit".
Look for the lines similar to following (usually second line from top) in the returnrd output:
---------------------------------
INFO: The following capabilities are defined by the loaded IOS image:
Firewall (formerly IPeXchange Net Management)
IP
