Hi, I'm just trying to budget for a ASA 5520 to upgrade from our Cisco PIX, I got a quote but the didn't realise that adding IPS almost doubles the cost, do many of you recommend this feature or is it a nice to have than a necessity?
Cisco IOS Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) is an inline, deep-packet inspection-based feature that helps enable Cisco IOS Software to effectively mitigate a wide range of network attacks. As a core facet of the Self-Defending Network, Cisco IOS IPS helps enable the network to defend itself with the intelligence to accurately classify, identify, and stop or block malicious or damaging traffic in real time. If you want these all features you have to pay somewhat a good amount. Dont see the money just trust on Cisco and get it as soon as possible.
