IPSec HOT backup

I've a couple of 7204VXR with the ISA controller, the first have the ATM line, the second the controller E1 PRI. These couple of router are the termination of my VPN.

My problem is, when the ATM line or the first router go down the second one don't close the VPN and my router client don't work. On this router I've applied the crypto map on the ATM interface and on a Dialer interface for backup.

On router (1720) in my extranet I've configure twice peer (the first router and the second) but when the first is unreachable the second don't work properly.

Is there a particular configuration for the hot backup?

Use IPSec over GRE and EIGRP. This configuration works for exactly what you have described.
