pix IOS version 7.1 has an WEBVPN (SSL VPN) feature on the pix 525

Hello,

Not sure why cisco did this, but according to multiple data sheets webVPN is not supported on the 500 series.

Heres a datasheet or two:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00806b1c1c.html

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/765/tools/quickreference/vpn_performance_eng.pdf

I haven't found an answer as to 'why' yet, or if they ever plan on supporting it.

hi jay cisco is more of a sales and marketing oriented company than a technology oriented company. cisco guys say that ssl vpn requires good throughput and processor for ssl vpns.

reports shows that pix535 has more throughput as compared to asa 5540.

ssl vpn and vpn load load balancing is not supported on any platform of pix. rest everything is same in pix and asa even the commands.

this is why they are not including ssl vpv on the pix cause there a many number of customers using pix and not ready to migrate to asa.so to promote asa and telling them something that the asa has and the pix doesn;t is the ssl vpn thing.

again cisco;s implemtation of ssl vpn is very ppor and not a industry standard as compared to ssl solutions by netscreen and checkpoint F5 and aventail.

asa still has a lot of bugs on the webvpn part. in the 7.3 code also there are truck loads of bugs all related to webvpn only.

hi buddy i am having a pix 515E-UR with the latest 7.2.1 code and sorry to say that pix doesn;t support webvpn at all. this ia marketing gimick by cisco to promote asa as compared to pix. once majority of their customers would have migrated to asa then they will announce pix to end of life and sale to get the existing customers also migrated to asa.
