hi folks!
I understand that you can load the PIX IOS on a 1720 router and turn it into a PIX firewall?. Is this true? If so, how can do this? My 1720 has two interfaces.
many thanks

I dont think so. IOS is developed based on hardware. The code which has been written for PIX hardware might not work with Router hardware. It is my opinion only.
Thank you.

Hi,
I think you are referring to the IOS FW feature. If so, please visit this site for more info. Using the IOS FW features you could have a scaled-down version of the firewall. Butit is not true that the PIX images can be loaded on the 1720 router.
Additionally there are the 6500 series switches that can host a Firewall module in them.
Anyway, the IOS FW link...

Hope this helps,

Nope. a 1720 has a risc cpu of some kind, I think. PIXen definitely have x86 processors. You are asking the equilavent of trying to install Mac OS X on a dell. Not going to work
