I have installed a SysLog Server. I am receving logs related to Config Changes on my Router. Now I want logs if anyone tries to telnet (Successful/Unsuccessful) to my Routers (Authorized/Unauthorized). I also want the Time In & Out of a Telnet Session. Pls suggest me what all Log I have to Configure.
There may be a couple of alternatives that you can consider. If you configure access-class on the vty ports to control telnet access and if you configure the log option on all the access list entries (both the permits and the denys) it should write an entry in the syslog every time that someone attempts to telnet (successful or unsuccessful). This would give you start time but not stop time.
If you are using aaa authentication with an ACS server (tacacs or radius) to authenticate telnet access then you can also use aaa accounting. This will give you both authenticated (successful) and denied attempts with a time stamp. And for authenticated sessions it can give you start and stop times.
