Mac-address based Static NAT

I have a requirement to give static NAT ip addresses to some Video Conference equipment. The issue is that the equipment floats within the building so it could be hooked up to any number of vlans at one time (one at a time of course) but for Outsourced VC Bridging, i need to assign a static NAT.

Is it possible to give a static NAT entry on PIX/ASA running 7.0 or 7.2?

Re: Mac-address based Static NAT

i dont think u can do this.. NAT works on layer 3 and it sees only IP addresses for translation.. in ur case, u need to manually change the static nats on your equipment, corresponding to the source IP of the VC equipment.

Hope this helps.. all the best..

If not bases on MAC Address, what about internal DNS hostname?

My last resort is to but a ACL that matches destination based static NAT.

Mobile IP might be a solution. THen you could create a static translation in the pix for the ip that sticks to the VC gear.
