Microsoft VPN Client through Pix 525

We are in the business of pleasing everyone here and so we are trying to accomodate a single user that is using a laptop running Microsoft Windows 2000 and is using the VPN client that comes with it.

What this user is trying to do is to get out of our network and connect to another VPN site. We have set up the NAT and Global statements correctly it seems but the user gets an encryption error. We are enabling GRE through the Pix. Do we also have to have the exact same encryption type? If we are running at 128 bit encryption and the other agency is running at 56 bit, do we have to dumb down our security?

Any help on this issue would be great. Are there any issues or non-normal ports that Microsoft uses in its implementation of VPN?

Re: Microsoft VPN Client through Pix 525

Hi,

All I can say is that PPTP should work fine, as long you have your PIX configured sth like this:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/110/pptppix.html

it uses tcp1723 and GRE protocol for control and data resp.

Thx

Afaq
