My boss wants an MOTD banner on our PIX-515Es running version 6.3(3). I have put the banner in and it shows up when I do "show banner". The banner does not appear when you log on or go to "priv exec" mode. It is only displayed when you logoff. I am fairly new in this job and would really like to figure this out. Can someone help me with this? Thanks much in advance.

would you like the banner to be displayed when a user tries to logon, if so you need to apply the keyword "login" with the command banner:
e.g.
banner login Enter your password to log in
in case you would like the banner to be displayed before the enable prompt, then you need to use the keyword "exec" with the command banner:
e.g.
banner exec Enter your password carefully

Thanks for you advice. I have tried using "banner login" and "banner exec" (putting in separate text for each banner). The only banner that displays is the MOTD banner and that only displays when you log off. All three banners do show up when I do a "show banner".

login banner displayed before any login
exec banner displayed after the first login before the enable mode
with ssh,
motd banner displayed after the first login
exec banner displayed after the first login
login banner doesn't show up at all

Jackko,
I think you have explained why I am not seeing it. I am looking at it from the console port of the PIX. These are on classified systems and we are not allowed to telnet into the firewall or routers. I really appreciate you taking your time to help me with this.
Thanks much,
Dan
