Need to add memory to an 801 router

I need to upgrade to 12 Meg RAM on a Cisco 801 in order to run the IOSIP/FW PLUS IPSEC 56 feature set (so I can VPN tunnel to another PIX).

When ordering I noticed that the product comes with 4 mg RAM and 12 mg Flash.

How many slots for DIMM are on the 801?.. is there more than one. If there is 4 on the box in one slot, will i be able to put the additional 8 mg DIMM in a slot beside it to equal 12 MG...

The 801 comes with 4 MB of DRAM on board and a free memory slot that can hold an additional 4-MB or 8-MB DRAM module. For the procedure and more information, you could refer to the document 'Upgrading Memory in Cisco 800 Series Routers' at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/800/800upgrd.htm. The document discusses the process in detail.

The 800 support page is a wonderful resource for tons of information on the router. You can get to the same by following the path Cisco > Technical Support > Hardware Support > Featured Products: Routers > 800 Series Routers.

Also, you might want to refer to the document 'Cisco 801-805 ISDN, Serial, and IDSL Routers' at

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/pcat/800.htm
