netsky virus

Does anyone know if Cisco has a signature out there that can pinpoint the netsky virus? I am not well versed at creating my own signatures yet, but I do know that they come in on port 389 (LDAP). Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: netsky virus

My apologies, it does not use port 389 as we originally thought.

W32.Netsky.B is a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send itself to the email addresses it finds when scanning the hard drives and mapped drives. This worm also searches drives C through Z for folder names containing "Share" or "Sharing," and then copies itself to those folders.

It comes in via an e-mail with like a whatever.doc.exe type extension.

I am not well versed at creating signatures yet. If anyone has an idea, please let me know.

Re: netsky virus

Because the NetSky.B virus is does not open any backdoors or actively spread other than through email, we will not be releasing any production signatures. Here are some custom signatures that will detect an infected host sending emails with the virus as an attachment.

1) For a non-zipped attachment:

Engine STRING.TCP

ServicePorts 25

Direction ToService

AlarmThrottle Summarize

SummaryKey AxBx

RegexString [N][q][A][V][s][r][3][4][l][d][C][I][r][3][/][+][3][/][H][4][D][7][L][n][U][M][i][A][w][C][i][1][U][g][\r][\n]

2) For a zipped attachment:

Engine STRING.TCP

ServicePorts 25

Direction ToService

AlarmThrottle Summarize

SummaryKey AxBx

RegexString [+][J][X][Q][i][K][9][/][/][t][/][x][+][A][+][y][5][1][D][I][g][M][A][o][t][V][I][M][k][D][1][+][s][F][\r][\n]

Note: Ignore the SummaryKey parameter for 3.x sensors.
