NIDS x SSL traffic

There are some encrypted SSL traffic on the same network segment that the NIDS is monitoring.

Will the NIDS detect any unauthorized activity in the HTTPS traffic?

Off the top of my head I would say no. I don't know of anything out there that can sniff encrypted trafic effectively. HIDS would come into play at that point as the only way I can think of to stop an attack.
