Not able to change the initial password on 4235

I'm initializing a Cisco 4235 IDS. When I login using cisco/cisco I'm prompted to change the password. However I do get an error each time I try. The error msg is "Authentication token manipulation error". Any idea's?

Below is the output from the IDS:

sensor login: cisco

Password:

You are required to change your password immediately (password aged)

Changing password for cisco

(current) UNIX password:

New password:

Retype new password:

Authentication token manipulation error

Re: Not able to change the initial password on 4235

Hi Guy,

I haven't been able to reproduce this problem. Are you getting this message regardless of the new password you're attempting to use?

Thanks,

Ward.

Re: Not able to change the initial password on 4235

Hi,

We've seen this problem a few times. I think the problem is that the prompts don't ask you for what you would expect. Notice that you are asked to enter your "(current) UNIX password:". It seems that a lot of people miss this part or do not understand and begin entering their new password when this is actually asking you to re-enter you "old" password (cisco if a newly imaged box). Once you do this, you should be able to proceed to entering your "new" password.

Hope this helps.

Scott
