PDM upgrade to ASDM question

I'm about to upgrade my Pix from 6.3 to 7.0(2) and I want to upgrade from PDM to ASDM but can't find documentation on how to do that upgrade. I can only find user guides for the ASDM software. Can someone link me the documentation on the actual installation process?

Thanks

Re: PDM upgrade to ASDM question

Hi rolandshum,

upgrade the ios/os img first in the "normal way" (copy tftp flash) reload, then do the same with the asdm img.

(In 6.x days you had to copy tftp flash:pdm , this isn't needed anymore)

IOS / ASDM come in a pair, so make sure you load the right version.

Re: PDM upgrade to ASDM question

Hi,

You need to read this part of the release notes:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/secursw/ps2120/products_upgrade_guides09186a0080369ee2.html#wp1135488

basically, depending on your pix model you'll probably need to upgrade from monitor mode. Once you've upgraded the install procedure is simply copying a file into flash, as described here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_tech_note09186a00804708d8.shtml

Finally, is there a reason why you're upgrading to 7.0(2) instead of 7.0(6) ?

Re: PDM upgrade to ASDM question

This is the first time I've done an upgrade of a Pix and I wanted to try and upgrade to the lowest recommended level of the OS to get RSA SecureID to work.

Re: PDM upgrade to ASDM question

Hi,

Probably a good idea to start with 7.0 in this case but 7.0(2) is still somewhat of a buggy release - 7.0(6) is much more stable.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
