Ping results in a Q

What does a Q mean when pinging an IP address? When there are five consecutive Qs, it shows a 0% success rate. What is this telling me?

I beleive -Q is somewhat like quiet output

Do not display ICMP error messages that are in response to our query messages. Originally, the -v flag was required to display such errors, but -v displays all ICMP error messages. On a busy machine, this output can be excessive. Without the -Q flag, ping prints out any ICMP error messages caused by its own ECHO_REQUEST messages.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
