PIX 501 - Massive Slowdown, packet loss

Hello,

I've got a PIX 501 and every other day or so, the network comes to a grinding halt and it has been identified that the PIX is the culprit. The utilisation is always very low and in fact little traffic really passes through the PIX. Tried a different interface, port on the switch, cable, etc.

Obviously when this happens, the PIX needs to be rebooted to solve the problem. Any ideas?

David,

Take a look at the interface and see what kind of errors you're getting. Also, you want to make sure that speed and duplex setting are set correctly on the device that connects to the outside interface on the 501. Regretfully there is no FLP sent from the PIX so the other device may not be negotiating correctly.
