Hi
Problem:
MS-Outlook Express (OE) doesn't send messages through MS-Exchange Server (resides on DMZ), when the PIX Firewall MailGuard feature is ON (fixup protocol smtp 25). When MailGuard is turned off, I am able to send messages.
It is understood that this behaviour of PIX Firewall is because of the MailGuard feature, which only allows 7 required SMTP commands, and whereas MS-Exchange Server use extended SMTP commands
As a workaround, I am using Outlook Web Access (OWA) for our external users.
Question:
I do not want to turn off MailGuard feature. Is there any other workaround so that I can use MS-OE with mailGuard feature ON?
Can I use SMTP over SSL as a workaround? What needs to be done for this and what ports needs to be open on the PIX Firewall?
Will the MailGuard feature be effective for SMTP over SSL, or it is effective only for SMTP?
Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance.
