PIX using two default routes - Is per-packet load balancing possible?

I have a PIX firewall that needs two default routes pointing to two separate HSRP addresses. Can I configure two default routes in the PIX and is it possible to do per-packet load balancing?

Thanks in advance.....

Re: PIX using two default routes - Is per-packet load balancing

The PIX can only have 1 prefered route for any destination. Multiple routes for the same destination can be learned via RIP for example, and both will show up in a "show route," however only the route with the best metric will be used. If you were to enter 2 equal cost routes into the PIX, the 2nd entry would overwrite the 1st one.

Hope that helps

If you do run a dynamic protocol i.e. RIP with equal costs, how would the PIX handle it? Would it "per-packet" load balance?

Adam,

Well from my testing, it will just pick 1 of them and use it. I believe it will just use the most recently learned route. So if you can get the 2 devices to send RIP updates per-packet to the PIX, then you're set :-)
