Port Security and Roaming MAC addresses

I am wondering if it is possible to set up port security on cat 2900's and 1900's to allow roaming users to access the network regardless of the physical port that they are connected to.

Basically trying to tie down the port to one MAC address but still allow help desk laptops to connect anywhere on the network.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Port Security and Roaming MAC addresses

As far as I know, this feature is not possible.

I know for the wireless Access Points you can have a central server administer which mac addresses are allowed on the network. But I haven't seen anything like this for the catalyst switches you mentioned.

Hi Gideon.

I was wondering if you can't use VMPS... I know the 1900's support it, but I'm not sure about the 2900's.

You can find information about VMPS here:

Hope it helps.
