Precautions to connect a switch

i have a network of four switches all on access layer are live..if i want to add one more switch what precautions i have to take????

There are quite a few, but two that jump out are spanning tree and VTP. What are the other three switches? How are they connected? Are you running VTP? Do you have multiple VLANs? Are you trunking between the switches?
