Problem with Name Resolution

I am running a VPN to our work network over a cable modem. I am having problems with Name Resolution.

The Cable Modem interface has the ISP domain name and server addresses. From the VPN 3005 I push the WINS addresses to the client.

When I start up the VPN and try to access one of our work servers (using name only) it doesn't resolve the name. If I use a fully qualified name, "server.company.net", it works.

I have tried manually configuring the isp dns servers and suffixes and adding our suffix, but this still doesn't work. The funny thing is I have sniffed the packets and the WINS server returns the address (within a few msecs) but my PC seems to ignore it.

This is under XP but the settings seem the same for all Windows versions.
