Reduction of alarms signatures

I know that this is a repeat of a previously posted question; it’s just that I have not been able to relocate the thread.

At one of the service pack levels, Cisco decided to disable all of the alarms older that a certain date in order to preserve memory.

Can someone just remind me of the service pack that takes this action?

Perhaps you could also point me towards some detailed technical explanation that prompted these decisions from Cisco. I would like to use this documentation motivate to our management to take the same base line decision with some of the “older alarms” within our organisation

To free up system resources on the sensor, signatures for vulnerabi-

lities discovered prior to 2002 have been disabled in this release.
