Hi,

Probably, but not so soon.

The new ASA appliance comes with new firewall code - PIX7.x. It is also bundled (optional) with IPS module & web vpn. Other common features are transparent / router mode with single or multiple context.

PIX, on the other hand, is a dedicated firewall appliance. It has basic IDS services. PIX can use either 6.x version or 7.x (depending on flash/RAM).

No option to slot modules, but can have higher port density, support fiber connection.

I think if Cisco wanted to EOL PIX, it will affect lots of customers who does not need ASA, but PIX.

*My personal opinion.

Rgds,

AK
