Router periodically stops responding when CBAC is enabled

I am using a 2600 router with IOS firewall feature set. I find that when I apply the CBAC ip inspect and associated access-list to my interface, the router periodically fails to respond to ping on all interfaces. Every couple of minutes, the router stops responding for 20s or so. When the CBAC rules are removed the router is fine.

cisco 2621 (MPC860) processor (revision 0x102) with 45056K/4096K bytes of memory

Any ideas?

I had a similar problem on a Cisco1720.

I changed code to a more recent rev and it works fine now.
