We have several applications that have a Web Front end and a Database backend. MS Sharepoint is a good example.
We want sharepoint to be available to the outside world so users can authenticate and access data. However, because there is the front end web server, we are considering placing it in our DMZ. Yet, by doing so, we would need to open up ports from the dmz to the inside.
We are also having debates about weather to place servers that are joined to a domain in a dmz. Again, if you really want the server to join the domain, you have to open up MS ports.
