Shell Access?

How do I access a shell on the IDSM's V4.1 and V3.0?

1 Accepted Solution

A correction.

The IDSM-1 running version 3.0 does not allow the user to gain access to a Unix Shell.

Side Note: The IDSM-1 is running Windows NT as the OS and not Solaris or Linux and so there is no root account. The IDSM does not provide a mechanism for the user to access the window's administrator account.

The IDSM-2 running version 4.x does all the "service" priveleged user to login to the box and get a standard Bash shell. The user account has to have been created with a "service" privelege. Once at the Bash shell the user can switch to user root "su - root". The IDSM-2 is running a Linux OS.

On version 3.x, when you login as root, you get access to the shell.

For version 4.x, you have to create a service account while logged into the CLI (conf t, username service password xxx privilege service), logout and log back into the sensor using this service account.

you can su to root using the same password.

Thanks,

How do I issue the command to su?

IDSM# su

^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker

seems like you are in the CLI mode. Please logon to the sensor using the service account and then at the prompt type in su to get into the root.
