I was wondering, if service password encryption is set, can the passwords of the router still be obtained through SNMP RO access? I'm trying to give my customer a simple solution to view the config, but I obviously don't want them to be able to have access to the passwords. Any ideas?

I tried this with the SolarWinds 2000 Pro Download Config utility. The SNMP RO string wouldn't even allow the download to be performed, much less reveal contents.

In order to reterieve the config via SNMP, you must use the RW strings. Can't do it only with the RO strings.

Perhaps you could write a script that would tail a mail spool for requests, kick off a script to retrieve the configuration, do some scrubbing, and mail them the results.
