Static NAT

I am having a problem resolving my static addresses. I am using a 2600 with ACL as my firewall, and have set up a couple of static addresses.

The static addresses work well, but I cannot resolve my outside addresses from my inside network. Is this by design? Is there anyway around it?

My concern is troubleshooting. It's a HUGE pain, to have to get to an outside machine in order to troubleshoot my outside addresses. Is there anyway around it?

In other words, say my email server has an outside address of 12.33.21.143, and we are not receiving email. I can't "telnet 12.33.21.143 25" to see if it's operational. I can, however, "ping 12.33.21.143". Am I missing something?

As far as I guess you should add DNS entry in your email server then try to telnet.

I think you would enable to communicate.

Or add your dns server entry as the helper address in your router.

You’ll have to telnet to a host outside and telnet back to test that static.
