Stopping MSN Messenger + MSN Chat on PIX 515 v6.2(1)

Has anyone managed to stop MSN Messenger and MSN Chat service running using PIX 515 with IOS 6.2(1).

If so, can you tell me which port(s)/IP addresses to block ?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Many Thanks - Jay

You should be able to blocking outbound access as follows:

TCP port 1863

IP subnet 64.4.13.0 255.255.255.0

That *should* get you going. Keep in mind IM programs are generally very eager to get a connection, and may try other ports, or specific newer versions may be more persistent in getting a connection. You may need to revisit this each time a MSN upgrade comes out. Generally searching Google will get a wealth of information (that's all I did).

Bluecoat (formerly cacheflow) has an IOS-like proxy appliance that can deal with IM programs that switch their ports to try to find a connection out.
