testing IDS

All!!

I have setup IDS eventviwer on my desktop and configure the IDS 4235 to communicate to my desktop for events. The output of nrconns commnad on the IDS shows that the connection is in established state. However I do not see any events in the event viewer from the IDS. IS there any way I can send a test request that triggers a particular event in the IDS to send the event to the IDS event viewer.

Note: I am newbie at the cisco IDS.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions

Re: testing IDS

Make sure you've configured span on the switch the monitoring interface is plugged into. You can test by using nmap... download nmap for free.

Re: testing IDS

Alternatively, you could tag the ICMP Echo Reply signature as High and generate a ping traffic on the monitored segment.

Thanks,
