trying to load SDM into 2651XM - errors in CLI

trying to set up and load SDM into 2651XM router -

1) at: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/sdm/sdmin12.htm#wp70999

it says:

Router#ip http server

but I get:

router#ip http server

^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker

can anyone say why doesn't this command work for me?

2) same document - I'm trying to load SDM and it says:

Router# copy tftp://<tftp server IP address>/sdm.tar flash:

I'm using the freeware tftp server from solarwinds.dot com and everything seems to be set up properly and the server is started, the right directory is chosen and my PC's server address shows as 192.168.0.6 but when I try the copy command I get:

router# copy tftp://192.168.0.6/sdm.tar flash:

Destination filename [sdm.tar]?

Accessing tftp://192.168.0.6/sdm.tar...

%Error opening tftp://192.168.0.6/sdm.tar (Timed out)

I guess here could be several reasons for this error but I need to check if the connection between my PC and the router is there. Is there a command I could use in the CLI that would test or verify the connection?

Thanks for any help

Hello Anthony,

" Router#ip http server

can anyone say why doesn't this command work for me? "

It doesnt work for you because you are not in global config mode. Issue the following

Router#config t

Router(config)#ip http server

Btw, you dont have to load SDM into router's memory, you can install SDM into your computer and run it from there.

Regards

thanks very much for your help husy, this solved the problem It seems the sample lines given in the cisco doc were wrong. I had no idea I could load SDM onto my PC and the router using the setup.exe. Got it loaded and working now and that's great.

I have had similar problems in the past with the TFTP. I would make sure that the file is in the default directory for the upload/download instead of a different directory.

As for the other the router# is the prompt for the router.

Have you tried to do a config t

ip http server (without including the prompt aka router#)
