TTL expires in transit

Hi All

i have set up a site to site vpn on my ASA, i have no issue pinging the external interface of the remote watchguard firewall. when i try to contact the internal host by ping. i received a ttl expires in transit

I will just like to know what does this mean in order to troubleshoot the issue.

Thank!

Re: TTL expires in transit

IP packet has TTL field and every router on path decrements TTL field by 1 If the TTL field reaches zero before the datagram arrives at its destination, then the datagram is discarded and an ICMP error datagram ( 11 - Time Exceeded) is sent back to the sender. The purpose of the TTL field is to avoid a situation in which an undeliverable datagram keeps circulating on an internet .....

It looks like some routing issue in your case, try to traceroute to destination

M.

Hope that helps, rate if it does
