Unable to browse NT4 domain through PIX 501 VPN

Our PIX501 was set up professionally and appears to work in that we can ping names and access resources, but we can not authenticate to the domain or browse the domain with Network Places from the clients. The connection is via ADSL, the server is NT4 SP6 and the clients are W2K. I am told the problem is with the domain/server but I have tried everything I know to resolve this. WINS DNS and DHCP are all up and running ok. I have read that VPN into NT4 is not easy, suggesting that it is possible but I am beginning to doubt it. Can anyone confirm that it is possible and if so what the secret is.

I am assuming here you are using the cisco vpn client. What if you try to use the feature start before logon? That should get the client machine to logon to the domain first before anything else.

Yes I am using the start before logon but I get domain unavailable or similar.
